A quick guide to getting the most out of your gay holiday to Rio

Rio Beach Life
  • Rio - Party Capital

Monthly parties at unusual places have brought a breath of fresh air to the Rio scene and are some of the best options for a night on the town. Dance to pop hits at Chá da Alice and ogle performers dressed as characters from Alice in Wonderland. Drag-se pays tribute to drag queens, while V de Viadão celebrates gay culture, and Boho offers a reliably cool vibe. Check social media to know when and where the next parties will be held. Don’t be shy; chat up locals for tips about the best new parties.

Rio, regularly voted as “The Sexiest Place on Earth!” is one of the most spectacular cities on the planet. Combine its wide expanse of white beaches, lush greenery and semi-tropical forest with the stunning Carioca guys in their tiny Brazilian speedos, no wonder it’s known as The Wonderful City.

The city is large, with over 6 million inhabitants, however the gay areas are located in Ipanema and Copacabana, making it very easy to navigate your way around the bars, restaurants and clubs. If in doubt, head for the beach and look out for the gay flags. Soon you will be bumping into beautiful bodies. Sunday is one of the most popular beach days when Farme beach becomes the place to be seen. Relax, watch some gay volleyball and soak up the sun with a Caipirinha.

Dinner in Rio is served around 8 or 9pm. Gay nightclubs never start earlier than 12am, so tourists first hit the gay bars before they go clubbing. Many of the gay bars in Rio have dance floors to get you in the mood for the night ahead. There are several Circuit Events and Pool parties taking place throughout the Summer season. The Week is perhaps the most famous and definitely the most popular, together with the Sunday Pool Parties.

Cruising in Rio is at your own rish and while it does go on, we would sugget you do it before it gets dark. If you do meet a local guy, remember, Rio has lots of Sex hotels where you can rent a room for some fun. They are clean and safe and much better than taking someone back to your hotel or apartment.

The three big events in the gay calendar are Rio Pride which takes place in early November, the New Years Eve celebrations or Reveillon and of course Carnival, the biggest party in the world. If you intend on coming for Carnival or New Years eve you should book well in advance. There are some great gay parties that dovetail with the Carnival parades.

This is a city that is blessed with both manmade and natural wonders. From Sugarloaf mountain to the Corcovado, make sure you take in all the sights. One way to take in the breathtaking beauty of the city is to take a helicopter tour. Definitely the highlight of any trip to Rio.

Finally, remember, One tip: word of mouth works wonders in Rio. If you`re savoring a nice, cool chopp (the local lager), don`t miss the chance of striking up a chat. Rio people love a gringo!
